Jack's Camp
Makgadikgadi Pans, Kalahari
Jack’s camp offers a unique experience in the Kalahari.
On a palm island, nine eccentric tents look over the grass and salt pans. With Persian rugs, antique chests inlaid with brass, four poster beds and panelled bathrooms, the camp is the only one of its kind.
The main dining and living tent has antique glass cabinets full of stone tools and fossils. There are photos of Bushmen, silver jugs of iced lime juice, and a library of old books. It has the feel of a rather refined museum.
Activities from Jack’s vary enormously and are guided both by guides and researchers. There’s the chance to sit surrounded by meerkats, walk with the Bushmen, explore by quad bike and lie on a salt pan watching the stars.
