New tourist gateway opens up South Africa: 10-10-2007

The South African government has announced that a new border crossing will open in Kgalagadi wildlife park, allowing easier passage across the country's frontiers with Botswana and Namibia.
The Mata Tourist Access Facility, located at Matamata, where the borders of western Botswana, northern South Africa and eastern Namibia meet, will serve travellers who wish to experience what all three countries have to offer.
"Mata will enable people to travel between the three countries via shorter routes and through efficient and convenient access/border control facilities," tourism ministry spokesman Tiro Kganela explained.
The Kgalagadi park incorporates the Gemsbok National Park in Botswana and the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park in South Africa.
Botswana president Festus Mogae hosted South Africa's Thabo Mbeki and Namibia's Hifikepunye Pohamba at a ceremony to mark the occasion.
