Ivindo National Park is a remote park in central Gabon bisected by the equator. The park is made up entirely of dense tropical rainforest with few tracks, meaning access is on foot only. The forest is home to elephant, buffalo, gorillas, a wide variety of other primates and more than 430 species of birds. The highlight of any trip to Ivindo is a visit to Langoue Bai, a clearing in the heart of the forest and a place of striking beauty. Discovered only a few years ago by Mike Fay on his Megatransect expedition across Central Africa, the Bai is a magnet for game. It is one of the best places to see lowland gorillas, which may visit on three or four days out of seven. Other regular visitors are forest elephant and sitatunga who will be seen on most days.
