To the east of Libreville at Lambarene, the Ogooue River splits into two channels before rejoining in a large alluvial plain with a series of lakes, papyrus marshes, reedbeds and forests. This is one of the largest deltas in Africa and is now a protected area. There is a fantastic array of birdlife including herons, spoonbills, skimmers, egrets, pelicans and more. The lakes are an ideal place for a few days of relaxation either at the start or end of your safari. There is one lodge, Evaro, that is perfectly situated on Lake Evaro for relaxation and exploration of this beautiful area.
