Kenya features in travel article competition: 02-09-2008

Being woken up by monkeys raiding your campsite may not be the most appealing experience you'll ever read about, but an article on travelling in Kenya has made it into the top 40 travel stories in the Guardian's travel supplement competition.
Ewan McCowen's story tells of how he camped near Tiwi beach, enjoying the sunshine and wildlife while strolling on the beach and swimming in the sea.
Sleeping in a hammock under the stars, the Scotsman explained how he was awoken by a troop of monkeys "causing havoc, stealing food, banging pots and jumping on tents" every morning during his stay.
Aside from all that fun though, he wrote with fondness of his time in Kenya.
"Kisite Marine Park makes an easy day trip by boat, with crystal water, pristine coral and multicoloured fish," he wrote.
"The monkeys may give me a rude awakening, showering twigs on to my face from the trees above, but with a long day of eating, drinking and sunbathing ahead of me, I think I can probably live with it."
The east African nation is a diverse place, with temperatures ranging from 30 degrees on the coast to under ten degrees in the mountains, which can reach over 3,000 meters in height.
