Mombasa carnival celebrates Kenyan culture: 30-10-2007

While Mombasa is a modern Kenya's nucleus of coastal and national culture, there is no better time to see this displayed than in November, when Mombasa holds its annual Cultural Carnival.
Renowned for its vibrant music scene, with modern bands playing live in the city's bars of Mombasa as well as Taarab musicians playing traditional Swahili music, one of the carnival's highlights is the performances put in by musicians from all over Kenya.
The main focus of the carnival is a lively street parade with different religions, cultures and communities joining together to create colourful floats and elaborate costumes to take part in the procession.
Starting as two parades, the lines converge on Moi Avenue, where the celebration culminates with Kenyan folk performances.
