The Norfolk Hotel, Nairobi

The Norfolk Hotel is one of Nairobi's oldest and best-known hotels. From the day is opened in 1904 it became a gathering place for new arrivals, business men and women and a start for safari expeditions. Since those early days the Norfolk has grown and expanded into a collection of half-timbered turrets, terraces, modern hotel wings and walks.

The whole hotel is loosely arranged around a central grassy courtyard where you will find a collection of old oxcarts and carriages. Arriving at the Norfolk you will be met by a liveried doorman and ushered past the Lord Delamere Terrace Bar into the glittering reception area. There are three category of rooms, standard, deluxe and suite. Standard rooms are comfortable with good beds, satellite television, air-conditioning and sparkling en suite bathrooms. The deluxe rooms are similar to the standard, but more spacious and the suites have an additional living room.

The Norfolk is well known for its excellent cuisine and many Nairobi residents come to enjoy food here. The Ibis Grill serves excellent a la carte meals whilst the Lord Delamere Restaurant good breakfasts, lunches and dinner. Finally, there is a swimming pool and health centre, the highlight of which is probably the massages that can be arranged - perfect for recovering from a long-haul flight.
