On This Trip
- Take an early morning walk in Masoala National Park
- Relax on remote Nosy Komba Island
This adventurous itinerary starts with five nights in a remote region of Madagascar’s East Coast. You will base yourself out of the traditional village of Maroantsetra, full of colourful markets. From here, you’ll take a boat out to the Masoala National Park, home to the rare red-ruffed lemur and Nosy Mangabe, famous for the aye-aye. Both areas of virgin rainforest which are beautiful beyond compare with tall pallisander trees, vines, wild ginger plants and orchids and ferns. Walking in the forest you can expect to see a myriad of frogs, chameleons and lemurs including red-ruffed lemurs, white-fronted brown lemurs, eastern woolly lemur and brown mouse lemurs.
After a wild time in the East you’ll return to Tana for a night before setting off for Andasibe National Park, the place to see lemurs at close quarters and the largest living lemur specie, the indri. From here you will return to Tana, fly to Tamatave and overnight before your next adventure – boating down the Pangalanes Canal. After a day of boating you will stay for two nights at the Palmarium where you can enjoy crowned lemurs at close quarters.
Your trip ends with three nights at the beautiful Tsara Komba lodge on the remote Nosy Komba. This little boutique hotel is the perfect place for you to hang up your walking boots, enjoy some swimming and snorkelling in the warm Indian Ocean and spend lazy afternoons snoozing in a hammock.
