Eastern Madagascar,
Madagascar

The Bushhouse is located on the eastern coast of Madagascar. It is hidden in green vegetation overlooking Lake Ampitabe, which is part of the Pangalanes Canal. The lodge is small and low key and has just 11 bungalows built of natural materials. Each bungalow has simple style with handcrafted furnishings including a double bed with mosquito net and shower/WC. Shower water is heated over a flame in a small water tank behind each bungalow and electricity is powered by a generator and is available between 6pm and 10pm. There are large terraces with spectacular views over the lake and the Indian Ocean.
The small outside restaurant, which is sheltered under palm roofing, serves Malagasy, Creole and French food. The bar offers a selection of drinks and of course the traditional local rum cocktails.
There are a number of activities available from Bushhouse including walks along the beach and visits to the Palmarium, a private natural reserve on a peninsula with several species of lemurs, endemic palms and orchids. You can also visit the local school at Ampahantany. Alternatively, you might just like to lie on the beach or snooze in the hammock in front of your bungalow.
