Tailor Made Holidays in Malawi: Malawi's Wildlife

Safari wildlife of Malawi

Malawi has a huge diversity of bird species, innumerable brightly coloured endemic cichlid fish in the lake and a variety of game in its national parks.

Nyika Plateau

In Liwonde the boat safaris are a highlight, offering photo opportunities of hippo pods and elephant herds in the Shire River while warthogs and antelope come to the banks to drink. There is also the chance to see rhino, which are being reintroduced to the park. On the Nyika Plateau, herds of zebra and roan antelope graze the rich grasslands and wattled crane and Denham’s bustard are amongst the rare birds to be found. Malawi is not the place to come for the big five but it will not disappoint with its wilderness, beauty and variety.

Those looking for big game can combine Malawi with Zambia’s game-rich South Luangwa National Park, which is easily accessible.
