Tailor Made Holidays in Mauritius: Highlights

Climb Le Morne Mountain

Le Morne is a stunning stone mountain located on the peninsula forming the extreme southwest of the island. To climb it you must be relatively fit, but the rewards are definitely worth the toil! During the ascent you will enjoy spectacular views over the south and west coasts of the island, taking in the brilliant blues and swirling sandbanks of the Indian Ocean and the dense greenery of Chamarel.

Enjoy a day at the races

For a truly different day out in Mauritius you can go to the races! The Champs de Mars in Port-Louis is one of the oldest race courses in the southern hemisphere, having hosted meetings since June 25th, 1812. You can even attend as a VIP and take in the action from the excellent vantage point of the Crown Lodge. The races are great fun but the people watching is just as entertaining, with a happy mixture of chancers and jet setters.

Explore Deux Cocos Island

In Blue Bay Marine Park, just off the southeast coast of Mauritius, Ile Des Deux Cocos is a tiny, circular island of exquisite natural beauty. Here you can visit the Moorish villa called 'Follies', built in the 20th century by one of the first English governors of Mauritius. A stunning white sand beach extends along a turquoise lagoon for much of the island's length, but the southernmost face is far more wild and rugged.

Play a round of golf

Mauritius boasts a number of high class golf courses in some of the most beautiful locations imaginable. Many of the hotels in Mauritius have their own course, but you are likely to get favourable green fees no matter where you are staying. If you have ever dreamed of playing a nine iron into a manicured green with the Indian Ocean lapping in on either side of you, you must play a round in Mauritius.

Relax on the perfect beaches of Mauritius

There is no escaping the fact that Mauritius boasts some of the world’s most perfect beaches. No matter which coast you choose, from Grand Baie in the north to Flic en Flac in the west and Belle Mare in the south, you will find silky white sand and warm blue ocean.

Sail the Dolphin Coast

A full day catamaran cruise along the west coast aboard O’Plézir, a spacious and well-appointed catamaran. During the cruise you can visit the home of a school of dolphins and there is also the opportunity for swimming and snorkelling (not with the dolphins). While cruising you can view the spectacular Rempart Mountain and Black River Range while enjoying a barbecue lunch prepared and served on board by the crew.

Take a catamaran cruise

There are various catamarans stationed around the island, taking different routes for a great day trip. Whether you start on the east, west or south coast, all of these routes offer some fabulous scenery and a surprisingly rich colonial history. For example you can sail around the bay of Vieux Grand, site of Napoloen’s naval victory in 1810. Many cruises offer snorkelling opportunities and you can also expect a fine seafood lunch!

Visit Chamarel Falls and Seven-Coloured Earth

This area of rolling green peaks, waterfalls and forests looks nothing like your stereotypical image of Mauritius, but it is just as beautiful as any of the picture-perfect beaches. Chamarel Falls and the famous Seven-Coloured Earth are two of the major attractions, but you won’t find many finer views than that enjoyed by the excellent La Chamarel restaurant.

Visit Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens

The Jardin des Pamplemousses is a peaceful oasis, the perfect place to shelter from the heat of the midday sun and enjoy a picnic lunch. Spread over 62 acres of gardens, there are some gorgeous examples of horticulturalism at its finest. Highlights include the talipot palm, which will flower once every fifty years and immediately die, and the beautiful Amazon water lilies. You will also encounter a large, French colonial style house, a monument to former President Sir Seewasogur Ramgoolam and some unfeasibly large tortoises.
