Maputo is a bustling port city. Situated in the far south of Mozambique on the Gulf of Maputo it has wide avenues and a lively atmosphere. Jacaranda, flame and palm trees line the wide streets, vendors sell everything from paw paws to pots and pans and there are lots of street cafés serving spicy snacks under rainbow coloured umbrellas.
Many visitors to Mozambique don’t visit Maputo unless they have a specific reason to do so such as friends or family in the area. Others like to stop for an overnight to see the city. It is probably not somewhere to spend more than a day or two however there is one beautiful hotel and some interesting day trips can be arranged. The atmosphere is hassle- free and it makes a pleasant stopover.
