Quilalea Island, Quirimba Archipelago

The exclusive Quilàlea Island is situated on Quilàlea Private Island. Nine rustic chalets are made from natural rock with makuti-thatch roofs. Inside, no details have been overlooked. There are king-sized beds, muslin nets and squashy cushions in soft fabrics, while the en suite bathrooms have antique showers, brass fittings and big fluffy towels. Quilàlea offers a number of gentle activities, such as the nearby reef which is perfect for snorkelling. Further afield there are deserted islands to explore, coral gardens to dive among and fishing villages to visit. Finally, we recommend taking an afternoon boat trip to Ibo Island to wander the streets of the town. This was once a key trading post in the Swahili Empire. It is now gently crumbling, its colonnades falling, painted roofs fading and brickwork covered with strangler figs.
