Ilheu das Rolas is a tiny islet dissected by the Equator, a short boat ride from Porto Alegre. It can be visited for the day but better to stay for the weekend to relax and enjoy some scuba diving. The only place to stay or eat is the Rolas Island Beach Resort. The resort provides scheduled boat transfers across to the island the crossing takes around 20 minutes. The views are lovely so keep your camera handy!
Praia Cafe is one of the best beaches on the island with lovely clear and calm water. It is possible to go out to several dive sites from here to see the coral reefs and marine life. The island is criss-crossed by numerous trails and takes around 2 hours to walk around. You can walk up to the Equator line marker and also up to the lighthouse which has lovely views of the island.
