South Africa celebrates wine tourism: 20-09-2007

Wine tourism is playing a key role in South Africa as more producers aim to lure overseas visitors.
South Africa Wine reports that the local economy is benefitting significantly from the popularity of the industry and more wineries are cashing-in on the interest from visitors. It is estimated that tourism relating to the wine sector is worth around R5 billion each year.
André Morgenthal, communication manager for Wines of South Africa (WOSA), explained: "The Cape Winelands is the third most popular visitor destination after Table Mountain and the V&A Waterfront."
He added: "Tourism has consequently become a greater feature of many local wine marketing strategies as producers seek to stand out in a crowded market that is home to over 6,000 labels."
The next step for the country is to take part in the prestigious Great Wine Capitals Global Network awards to further highlight the great range of wines available in the region and promote the country as an international wine producer.
