Whale watching season draws to a close: 22-11-2007

November is the last time in the year for animal lovers to catch whale watchers in one of the best spots on the planet.
Hermanus, just off the coast of South Africa, is regarded as a top spot to watch the magnificent mammals.
The area is southeast of Cape Town and whales can be seen from the cliffs as early as June and holidaymakers looking to learn more about whales can go to visit the local museum that details the whaling history of Hermnaus.
Anyone worried about missing the whales should not panic as the locals have a system in place to identify where they can be best seen.
A Whale Crier sounds his kelp horn announcing when the whales are seen and where to go to see them.
Whaling is the subject of a major festival in September when the Southern Right whales come into the local bay for mating season, a festival for the whale calves is also held and food and craft stalls and South African theatre are used to celebrate the event.
