Whatever comes to mind when you think of Africa - open savannah covered in game, elephants meandering through acacia woodland, dense dripping rainforest echoing with the screeches and hoots of monkeys and chimpanzees, or the dark eyes of a mountain gorilla - it can be found in Uganda.

On the elevated basin between the eastern and western branches of the Great Rift Valley, Uganda is where the dry savannah of East Africa meets the dense rainforest of West Africa, whilst to the north is arid semi-desert. A fertile country of dramatic mountain ranges, beautiful lakes, rivers and waterfalls, and abundant wildlife including a remarkable diversity of birdlife, it is no surprise that Uganda is considered one of the most diverse and fascinating of the East African countries.

Whilst Uganda’s tourism is still very low key, there are a few simple lodges and tented camps in the national parks and reserves. Roads are relatively good and the easiest way to travel is in a 4WD driven by your guide. This gives you the freedom to travel at your own pace whilst your guide provides valuable insight on the flora and fauna of this fascinating country.
