Tailor Made Holidays in Uganda: Places to See and Stay

Audley in Uganda

Although tourism is on a very small scale in Uganda, the infrastructure has improved rapidly over the last few years. The main roads are in a good condition and even the unpaved roads are well maintained, whilst high quality lodges and small tented camps are now found in most of the national parks and game reserves.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

The best way to travel around southern Uganda is by road as the distances are relatively small and the scenery wonderful, but we would recommend lightaircraft flights for visits to Murchison Falls, particularly during the wet seasons.

On arrival in Uganda you will be met by your driver-guide for the trip. He will guide you throughout your stay in Uganda, joining other expert guides for specialist activities such as gorilla or chimpanzee tracking.

As Uganda has good regional connections with Kenya and Tanzania you can fly to the beach for a relaxing end to your safari.

Uganda's Wildlife

Wildlife of Uganda

Uganda is renowned for its mountain gorillas, found in the montane forest of Bwindi and the bamboo-covered slopes of the Virunga Mountains. There is more, however, to Uganda than just gorillas.

The accessibility of the closed canopy forest makes Uganda a good destination for viewing African forest animals.

Queen Elizabeth National Park

Chimpanzees and ten species of monkeys are found in Uganda including blue, red-tailed, De Brazza’s, and L’Hoest’s monkeys, the grey-cheeked mangabey and both red and black-and-white colobus. There are five bushbaby species and the peculiar potto.

The savannah reserves are recovering from heavy poaching but still offer good game viewing with lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, giraffe and a variety of antelope common, including the endemic Uganda kob.

The birdlife is remarkable with over 1,000 species recorded. Of particular interest to birdwatchers are species such as the papyrus gonolek and the shoebill stork.
