Bats provide safari spectacle: 20-12-2007

Bats provide safari spectacle18402837Wildlife enthusiasts can see amazing spectacles across Africa, but Zambia's bats provide one of the greatest. Thousands of them fly into the sky as the sun sets, looking like a small hurricane and clearly visible in the air before scattering and disappearing into the night sky.

During the rainy seasons the fruit bats roost in the centre of the park, each one with a metre-wide wingspan making quite a sight as they take flight and rise into the air.

Kasanka National Park is a mixture of swampland and forest and attracts plenty of animals to the areas giving visitors a good chance to a diverse selection of wildlife as well as the fruit bats.

Antelope, zebra, buffalo and elephants are all common in the park as well as hippos and crocodiles that can be found in the swamp areas.
