Day 1London
Your flight is an late evening flight with Kenya Airways from London Heathrow direct to Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta Airport. It is an eight hour flight but there are plenty of movies to watch or because it is an overnight flight you should be able to sleep for most of it.
On arrival you will be met and driven to the domestic terminal for your light aircraft flight over to the Masai Mara, landing in the late morning. Here you will be met by a driver-guide your camp who will game-drive you back to the camp where you can settle in, have some lunch and relax during the heat of the day. In the mid-afternoon you can go out on an afternoon game-drive to explore this wildlife-rich area of the Masai Mara.
On safari - you can enjoy morning and afternoon game-drives when the wildlife is at its most active. There are a couple of resident prides of lion who prowl the plains not far from the camp, so you have good chances of seeing at least one pride during your stay here .
Another day on safari, doing morning and afternoon game-drives and returning to camp in the heat of the day. You will explore different areas and the guides here are superb and will be keen to ensure you see as much as possible during your time! If any of you have an animal in particular that you`re really keen to see, do let your guide know so they can try to take you to the right areas!
Your final full day on safari which you can spend exploring this beautiful reserve. The Masai Mara has some of the best populations wildlife in Africa, so make the most of your time here.
You can enjoy a final morning game-drive and breakfast at the camp before you fly back to Nairobi in the late morning. On arrival in Nairobi you will be greeted at the airport and taken to The Norfolk where you enjoy a good meal in the restaurant and rest for the evening.
This morning you return to the international airport for your flight to Zanzibar. This is a short flight, approximately one hour and on arrival on the island you will be collected and taken to the Echo Beach Hotel , home for the next six nights. The journey will take you through colourful villages and past spice plantations on the way, and will take around two hours.
You can spend your time here doing as much or as little as you like. If you want to relax, there`s a lovely spa where you can enjoy a massage, and there are plenty of places to relax in the sun or shade by the pool or on the beach.
Today you may like to experience a snorkelling trip. Sail in a traditional dhow to one of the reefs, and can spend an hour or two watching the colourful marine life living in the corals off Zanzibar. This is a lovely way to spend a morning or afternoon and a good opportunity to sail on a dhow as well.
Another good way to spend a morning or afternoon if you`re looking for a change of scene from the beach, is to visit the Jozani Forest in the centre of the island. It`s home to the rare red Kirk`s colobus monkeys which are endemic to the island, which are really entertaining to watch leap and play in the trees.
A recommended excursion is a visit one of the small-scale spice farms on the island - you get a really hands-on experience tasting and smelling the spices for which the island is famous, and children from nearby villages often run out to greet you. This can be easily arranged either in advance or when you're at the hotel, so you can see how you feel day by day
At leisure to choose from activities, perhaps hiring bicycles to explore the island under your own steam - the people in the nearby village are really friendly and will wave as you cycle past!
Your final full day on the beach, which you can spend doing as much or as little as you like. For something completely different you could head into Stone Town for a daytrip - the town is located on the west coast, around an hour and a half away, and is a busy and fairly dusty town. However, it`s full of shops and street stalls, so if you`re looking to buy souvenirs this is the best place for it, and the narrow winding streets are reminiscent of Marrakech.
You will be picked up this afternoon and driven across the island in time for flight to Nairobi. In Nairobi you will continue on your international flight to London. There is no need to pick up your luggage in Nairobi as this will be checked through to London.
