Anakao Ocean Lodge

Anakao

Anakao Club Resort sits perched on a long sandy beach, a ten minute boat ride from the village of Anakao.

The lodge has 24 standard rooms (including three family rooms) as well as one suite. The thatched stone rondavels are built in two rows along the beach. All are made from local materials, with palisander wood floors, shutters and doors, and bleached sandstone walls.

Inside, the rooms are decorated in cool neutral colours, with double or twin beds, a small dressing area, and a bathroom tucked away at the back. The family rooms have a mezzanine floor with twin beds upstairs, while the suite also has a large sitting area.

The main lodge, is a large, round, stone building housing the bar and restaurant under a soaring thatched roof. From the restaurant, it's possible to see straight into the kitchen, where the chef cooks delicious French and Malagasy food, often fish from the sea nearby. Outside there is a small terrace, where guests eat lazy lunches and listen to the waves.

As you would expect at a seaside hotel, activities focus on watersports; kayaking, windsurfing, and fishing can all be organised from the lodge, as well as speedboat and pirogue trips. Quad bikes are available for those who wish to explore the nearby villages, and excursions are also offered to the nearby islands of Nosy Satrana and Nosy Ve.

For those who just want to relax, a spa has recently been opened at the lodge.
