Wildlife of Madagascar

Isolated from the rest of the world, there were no large predators: here wildlife evolved on its own distinct path. Of Madagascar’s 200,000 species, more than 80% are endemic.

Madagascar's most famous wildlife type has to be its lemurs. This red-ruffed lemur is one of approximately 100 species on the island.
Madagascar is home to about half the world's 150 or so species of chameleons. This one is in Andasibe-Mantadia National Park.
Don't forget that Madagascar also has some fantastic marine life, such as this humpback whale off the coast of Ile Ste Marie.
A stripped civet, Ranomafana National Park.
The largest carnivorous mammal in Madagascar, the elusive fossa.
A black lemur at Eden Lodge, a new eco lodge on Baobab Beach, combining wildlife and fantastic beaches.
Tree frog in Andasibe-Mantadia National Park.
A well camouflaged gecko, Amber Mountain National Park.
An indri, Andasibe-Mantadia National Park.
Brookesia Minima is one of the smallest chameleons in the world. It can be seen (just!) in Amber Mountain National Park.
Lovebirds, Anjajavy Private Nature Reserve.
Verreaux's Sifaka, Isalo National Park.
