Situated 55 miles south west of Nosy Be are the extremely remote and rarely visited Radama Islands.

Most people have never even heard of these islands, let alone thought about trying to visit them. As so little is known about them, they remain quiet, forgotten and quite simply, paradise on earth.

Island life

Some of the islands have small Sakalava or nomadic fishing communities on. Traditional fishing techniques still prevail in the area with fishermen using sail or oar-powered pirogues. Fady's (taboos) exist around many things, including the hunting of turtles, so they remain in abundance here. There is lush tropical plant life, sugar white beaches, small coves and translucent waters. There are sheltered bays, ideal for mooring boats and the marine life below the surface is enough to entice anyone to explore. The diving here is spectacular, primarily wall diving with depth ranges from 12-80 metres. There is a large shelf on the edge of the Madagascar Channel, which lies three nautical miles from the islands. Spectacular drops are the order of the day with gigantic crevices and caves.

Smaller Islands

The largest island is Nosy Berafia, which has a number of Sakalava fishing villages on it. Other islands include Nosy Valika, Nosy Kalakajoro, Nosy Antany Mora, Nosy Tany Fady, Nosy Berangomaina and the tiny Nosy Opy. As there is no accommodation on these islands it is best to explore by chartering one of the Madavoile yachts.
