There are miles of colourful, untouched coral and a multitude of tropical fish species. Dive sites range from six metre beginner spots to vast coral walls for advanced divers to explore.

    A certain amount of patience and open mindedness is required for a safari in Mozambique, but there is big game present in both the Niassa Wildlife Reserve and the Gorongosa National Park. These are incredibly scenic tracts of wilderness, where guided walks and water based activities complement the game drives superbly.

    Ibo Island and Ilha de Mozambique are undoubtedly the jewels in Mozambique’s cultural crown. Both have an evocative collection of colonial ruins that is slowly being brought back to life. Dig below the surface and you will also find much of interest in Pemba, Vilanculos and the small communities living on the Bazaruto and Quirimba islands.

  • Marine Wildlife

    Exploring the waters of Mozambique reveals a wealth of marine life, from moray eels and groupers to parrot fish and reef sharks. Both the Bazaruto and Quirimba Archipelago’s attract nesting turtles at varying times, while there are conservation projects in place in the south to protect the rare, endangered dugong.

Indigo Bay is situated on a perfect crescent of white sand on Bazaruto Island.

It is a luxury hotel with rooms spaced along the beach and hillside, and has recently undergone an extensive upgrade. Rooms have every facility including air-conditioning, mosquito screens, flat screen television, minibar, telephone and en suite bathrooms with bath and shower. The rooms lead out onto private decking and into gardens with access to the beach.

There are a couple of restaurants, including the Golfinho Restaurant that serves superb a la carte Mozambiquan and Portuguese cuisine and the Crocodile Lake Boma that serves alternative African bush-style dinners under the stars. You can order food from the pool bar and dine on the decking raised on the beach edge.

Indigo Bay has plenty to offer the active. There is a large swimming pool beneath the main lodge and diving, snorkelling, fishing, sailing, horse-riding and 4WD trips are easily arranged.

There is a well equipped diving centre where professional instructors can help those inexperienced with this fantastic sport. There are several other water sports on offer such as windsurfing and kayaking.

Finally, the Sanctuary Spa has recently opened with eight tranquil rooms and a variety of relaxing health and beauty treatments.
