Itinerary Route Map - 13 Days

Elephant, The Niassa ReserveQuirimba Archipelago, Mozambique

Our Tailor-made suggestions for this itinerary are:

  • Fly to Gorongosa National Park to the south. The newly restocked and revitalised national park is a fascinating place to visit and witness the conservation projects taking place here.
  • Mozambique can be combined with time in South Africa. You may like to visit the Kruger National Park or experience the buzz of Cape Town.
  • Alternatively travel North to Tanzania where you can fly on to Zanzibar or take a safari in the Selous.

Highlights of this itinerary

  • Game drives in the Niassa Reserve. The game is still wild and unused to vehicles but you can expect some fascinating sightings of elephant, plains game and birdlife.
  • You may even be able to watch elephants from your room at Lugenda - they are attracted by fruit of the fig trees around the camp
  • Visit the star-shaped fort on Ibo Island, built in the Portuguese colonial era with its old canons still facing out to sea.
  • Ibo doesn't have a beach but you can take a boat trip to sand bank for a bit of beach time and swimming.
  • Take a boat trip out to the off-shore coral reefs from Guludo for great snorkelling or scuba diving trips.
  • Visit the village close to Guludo Lodge, home to many of the lodge's staff to gain a bit of insight into life in Mozambique.
