Itinerary Route Map - 10 Days

Our Tailor-made suggestions for this itinerary are:

  • From Pemba take a light aircraft to the Niassa Reserve in Northern Mozambique for some time on safari. You won't see the Big 5 here but there is some fascinating wildlife and birdlife in this wild reserve.
  • Fly to Gorongosa National Park to the south. The newly restocked and revitilised national park is a fascinating place to visit and witness the conservation projects taking place here.
  • Mozambique can be combined with time in South Africa. You may like to visit the Kruger National Park or experience the buzz of Cape Town.
  • Alternatively travel North to Tanzania where you can fly on to Zanzibar or take a safari in the Selous.

Highlights of this itinerary

  • Visit the star-shaped fort on Ibo Island, built in the Portuguese colonial era with its old canons still facing out to sea. Now the fort is home to some of Ibo's craftsmen who create delicate silver jewelery.
  • Ibo doesn't have a beach but you can take a boat trip to sand bank for a bit of beach time and swimming.
  • Visit the village close to Guludo Lodge, home to many of the lodge's staff to gain a bit of insight into life in Mozambique.
  • Take a trip to the off-shore reefs to enjoy a spot of snorkelling or scuba diving.
