Day 1London
Fly from London to Johannesburg overnight.
On arrival in Johannesburg connect onto a flight to Windhoek. You will be met on arrival in Windhoek by our agents and taken to the simple Rivendell guesthouse. There is a pool here and children's toys and books can be provided. A chance for everyone to let off steam after a long journey!
You will have a drive into the Naukluft Mountains this morning to the Corona Guest Farm. Corona has lots of space for children to play and you can enjoy a short nature walk if you choose.
You will continue your journey down to Sossusvlei. Here you'll stay in the relaxed and family friendly Desert Homestead. You can explore under your own steam this afternoon or take a guided nature drive.
You will drive to Sossusvlei this morning where you can spend time climbing sand dunes, sliding down them and playing in a LOT of sand! During the afternoon you may wish to enjoy the swimming pool on the property.
Today there is a long drive so we would recommend an early start with perhaps a stop for breakfast on the way. If you drive early in the morning you tend to see more wildlife on the road. Walvis Bay is a good place to stop and stretch your legs and there are flamingos and often pelicans to see in the lagoon. From here it is only a short drive to Swakopmund and if you've left early you will arrive in time for lunch. Then the afternoon can be spent on the beach, at the aquarium or exploring the town.
We've suggested a half day kayak trip to Pelican Point today where there are hundreds of seals that play around your kayaks. If your children are too young for kayaking there are some excellent boat trips which go to view the seals as well as other wildlife such as pelicans, flamingos and dolphins. Another alternative is the Living Desert Tour which shows children lizards, geckos and more in the desert.
You will drive north into Damaraland today and again we'd recommend leaving early as you are more likely to spot wildlife on the road. Twfelfontein has a large pool or you could spend the afternoon looking at some of the nearby rock engravings. There is a short walking trail and lots of engravings of animals to see.
A short drive brings you into Etosha where we've recommended you stay in the Okaukuejo Rest Camp. You can have a rondavel here, close to the waterhole, where the whole family can stay together. There is a good sized pool and the camp is fenced so suited to children. In the centre of camp is a floodlit waterhole, surrounded by benches where you can sit and spot game throughout the day or into the night.
A full day to explore Etosha in your own car. We provide you with a map of the park and you can choose which waterholes to head for and how long you'd like to go game viewing for. Returning to camp in the middle of the day you can enjoy a buffet lunch, picnic or barbeque and spend some time in the pool before setting out for another game drive.
Another day of game viewing. If you like you can set off for Halali and stop there to stretch your legs, have lunch and use their pool before heading back to Okaukuejo.
You will drive south to Windhoek today, perhaps stopping at the Okahanja Craft Market where you can buy every type and size of wood carving and other curio!
After a morning exploring Windhoek you will head to the airport, leave your car and board your flight to Johannesburg. In Johannesburg you will connect onto an international flight to London.
Day 14London
You will arrive back in London in the early morning.
