Namibia floats new border crosssing: 25-10-2007

The latest installation of a pontoon boat service at Sendelingsdrift and the opening up of the Mata-Mata border post means travellers can pass more freely between Namibia and South Africa. This means that visitors can explore the beautiful and ancient landscape of the Namib Desert and the Ai-Ais National Park on the Namibian side of the border and the Richtersveld National Park on the South African side without having to exit the parks first.
Other attractions which will become more accessible are the world's second largest canyon, the Fish River Canyon and the mountainous dunes at Sossusvlei.
An increasing demand for adventure activities in the desert region is expected to be met with Ai-Ais Park offering both luxury accommodation and camping facilities, with five-day hiking trails possible during cooler weather.
