Trek to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania

Audley Travel are now full members of the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP), which is an initiative of the International Mountain Explorers Connection.

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, TanzaniaKPAP was set up in 2003 as a Tanzanian NGO (Non-Governmental Organization), with the simple aim of improving the working conditions of the porters on Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

The following list of recommended guidelines is its response to hopefully achieving this goal:

  • A minimum wage for all routes.
  • Loads should not exceed 25 kilos.
  • Porters receive the full amount of tip intended for them.
  • Porters are outfitted with proper clothing and equipment.
  • Porters have proper shelter and sleeping equipment.
  • Porters are provided with food and water.
  • Number of crew should stay consistent throughout the trip.
  • Sick or injured porters are properly cared for.

Mount Kilimanjaro

Standing at 5,895 metres tall, Kilimanjaro towers over the plains of Kenya and Tanzania. With knowledgeable guides it is possible to climb it over the course of several days.
