Reasons To
Visit South Africa

  • Self Drive

The most economical and by far the most popular way to experience South Africa is on a self drive. The roads are good, traffic tends to be light and driving is on the left.

  • Wine Tasting

Within easy driving distance of Cape Town, the valleys of Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek have become known as 'The Winelands'. Here you can admire the manicured rows of green and russet vines and even stop to sample the local tipple.

Hermanus and Walker Bay, near Cape Town, are perhaps the best places in the world to spot whales from the shore (Jun-Dec). Whale watching trips from boats are also popular in South Africa.

Our Rating: Medium

Isibindi Zulu Lodge

The Battlefields, Kwazulu-Natal

Isibindi Zulu Lodge is a peaceful bushveld retreat within a 4,000 acre reserve containing plains game such as giraffe, zebra and wildebeest. The six rooms are the traditional Zulu beehive shape, giving the lodge plenty of character.

All rooms are en-suite with separate bath and shower and with a small private viewing deck overlooking the reserve and surrounding hills. Similarly, the lodge's swimming pool has beautiful views over the river.

The lodge offers a wide variety of activities: game drives and walks, tours of the nearby Battlefields, including Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift, Zulu cultural experiences, fishing and white-water rafting (the latter needs to be booked in advance).
