    Learn how Ghandi, Paul Kruger and Winston Churchill were all involved in the battle of Spioenkop, during the Boer War, or how a hundred British soldiers held off some 4,000 Zulus at Rorke’s Drift, and how nearly 1,800 were killed a few hours earlier at the battle of Isandlwana.

Renamed from La Couronne after a recent fire, the Mount Rochelle Hotel is sure to bounce back as good as ever.

A classic, colonial hotel set on a hillside overlooking the town, it is one of the more exclusive places to stay in Franschhoek. From the dark woods and crisp linens of the bedrooms to the wicker chairs and cold drinks of the bar with its views of the valley, the hotel exudes elegant charm.

Service at the hotel has always been a strong point, and the staff are wonderfully friendly so it never feels too formal.

We certainly regard Mount Rochelle as one of our favourite hotels in the Winelands.
