Reasons To
Visit South Africa

  • Self Drive

The most economical and by far the most popular way to experience South Africa is on a self drive. The roads are good, traffic tends to be light and driving is on the left.

  • Wine Tasting

Within easy driving distance of Cape Town, the valleys of Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek have become known as 'The Winelands'. Here you can admire the manicured rows of green and russet vines and even stop to sample the local tipple.

  • Whale Watching

Hermanus and Walker Bay, near Cape Town, are perhaps the best places in the world to spot whales from the shore (Jun-Dec). Whale watching trips from boats are also popular in South Africa.

  • Battlefields

Learn how Ghandi, Paul Kruger and Winston Churchill were all involved in the battle of Spioenkop, during the Boer War, or how a hundred British soldiers held off some 4,000 Zulus at Rorke’s Drift, and how nearly 1,800 were killed a few hours earlier at the battle of Isandlwana.

  • Big Cats & Safari Wildlife

South Africa offers some of the best safari in the whole of Africa. One of the best places are the private reserves of Kruger Greater Park, where you can see the 'Big Five' (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo).

The Last Word Franschhoek is a great property offering luxury, superb hospitality and a great location in the centre of this pretty village.

Our Rating: First Class

The Last Word Franschhoek

Franschhoek, The Cape Region & Winelands

This beautifully restored Franschhoek home offers a combination of elegant and spacious interiors, peaceful courtyard gardens and a very central location.

The six rooms each open on to a small patio and the property interior has been designed in a sophisticated style, mixing contemporary pieces with more traditional Cape decor. Rich fabrics, deep cushions and a neutral colour palette give suites and public spaces a very comfortable and calming atmosphere.

There is a small pool area which is perfect for relaxing after a hard day's wine tasting - here you can also decide which Franschhoek eatery you will stroll to in the evening. There is also a lovely upper terrace area where you can relax when you aren't out exploring the area, and a guest computer if you need the internet during your stay.

The Last Word Franschhoek offers a wonderfully warm welcome and guests are extremely well looked after.
