Accommodation in South Africa: The Portswood Hotel
Our Rating: Medium
The Portswood Hotel
Cape Town, The Cape Region & Winelands
In keeping with its location right next to the V & A Waterfront, the PortsWood is a fully restored National Monument that played an important part in the development of the Cape Colony, and now is a popular hotel with a naval theme.
The decor is elegant and well finished but not pretentious and the 102 rooms are comfortably furnished. Meals can be taken around the discreet pool area or in the Quarterdeck restaurant, which specialises in cuisine that ranges from Cape Malay to fresh seafood.
Its rough-hewn walls testify to the building’s previous role as a prison.
