Reasons To
Visit South Africa

  • Self Drive

The most economical and by far the most popular way to experience South Africa is on a self drive. The roads are good, traffic tends to be light and driving is on the left.

  • Wine Tasting

Within easy driving distance of Cape Town, the valleys of Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek have become known as 'The Winelands'. Here you can admire the manicured rows of green and russet vines and even stop to sample the local tipple.

  • Whale Watching

Hermanus and Walker Bay, near Cape Town, are perhaps the best places in the world to spot whales from the shore (Jun-Dec). Whale watching trips from boats are also popular in South Africa.

  • Battlefields

Learn how Ghandi, Paul Kruger and Winston Churchill were all involved in the battle of Spioenkop, during the Boer War, or how a hundred British soldiers held off some 4,000 Zulus at Rorke’s Drift, and how nearly 1,800 were killed a few hours earlier at the battle of Isandlwana.

  • Big Cats & Safari Wildlife

South Africa offers some of the best safari in the whole of Africa. One of the best places are the private reserves of Kruger Greater Park, where you can see the 'Big Five' (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo).

Accommodation in South Africa: Villa Blu

Whilst Villa Blu is slightly out of Hermanus and set back from the beach we feel it is a great base for the area as taxis can be arranged for the evening and it is just a short walk down to the beach to see the whales.

Our Rating: Medium

Villa Blu

The Whale Coast, The Cape Region & Winelands

Outside of Hermanus in the quiet residential suburb of Mosselberg you will find Villa Blu a spacious, welcoming guest house a short walk from Mosselberg beach where whales can be seen with the naked eye.

The house is set in gardens which lend themselves to relaxing by the pool after your day's whale watching. The house is decorated with a marine feel with aged white-washed wood and shades of blue drapes.

All of the 11 rooms are en-suite and three of the rooms, upstairs, have sea views whilst the downstairs rooms either have a pool or garden view.

Each room has a television, a safe and fans for those hotter months, the bathrooms have showers and baths and are very well appointed.

Breakfast is served either outside in a very pretty courtyard or inside in the open-plan kitchen giving you that home from home feel.
