It's a happy coincidence that many of South Africa’s highlights lie upon a clearly defined, easily navigable route, a coincidence that makes it a great destination for first-time visitors.

Whale close to the shore at Walker Bay, Cape Region.
Think of whale watching and the image that often springs to mind is bouncing over a lumpy sea under a leaden grey sky, wrapped in warm, waterproof clothing whilst being lashed by spray carried on a gusting wind.
However, there are places where you could sit on a clifftop under a warm sun, sipping a worldclass, cool, crisp Chardonnay, watching southern right and humpback whales surfacing within 30 metres of the shore. This scenario is regularly enjoyed by Audley clients at Walker Bay, not far from Cape Town.
Other noteable whale watching destinations nearby include the pretty harbour town of Hermanus, where a whale crier announces nearby sightings with loud blasts on his dry kelp horn; De Kelders has an excellent selection of restaurants and things going on plus of course your chance to watch whales as they frolic close to the coastline.
