Day 1London
The flight to Cape Town departs this evening from London.
Arriving in Cape Town a representative will be there to greet you, handover vouchers for your time in South Africa and answer any immediate questions that you may have. You then collect your hire car and make your way to your guest house.
You have the day at leisure to explore Cape Town and the surrounding area. One recommendation is to drive around the Cape Peninsula where you can visit the Cape of Good Hope and the penguins at Boulders Bay.
On a clear day, it's worth visiting Table Mountain. The mountain dominates the Cape Town skyline and no visit here is complete without a trip to the top. This can be done either by walking, which can take up to five hours or by the more sedate Cableway, which allows for stunning views across the city as you travel up and down. Once at the top a stunning view and series of walks awaits you and even a restaurant for you to enjoy lunch in.
This morning you could take the half-day excursion to Robben Island (must be pre-booked). You will learn about where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for so many years and learn the history of the island and of the Apartheid and get the chance to see Nelson Mandela's cell.
This afternoon you will drive to the charming town of Franschhoek, which is located in the Winelands.
When you visit the Winelands you will be surrounded by hundreds of wine farms and you can just drop in to any estate that catches your eye. We can give you recommendations of our favourites before you travel, to give you a head start.
If you want to see some of the hidden gems of the area, we can arrange a guided tour of the wine estates in Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. This can be tailored to your interests, and can include additional treats including chocolate tasting paired with wines, classic car collections and even archaeological sites.
Today you drive northwest into the Western Cape for three nights staying in a private nature reserve, enjoying game-drives, walks and visits to the Bushmen rock paintings.
Day 9Tulbagh
On the reserve you can simple relax or see some of the wildlife which includes bontebok antelopes and some stunning birdlife.
Day 10Tulbagh
If you are here around August it may be possible to see the wild flowers. These are a remarkable sight, but quite hard to predict as the flowers only bloom after the spring rain showers.
Continuing west towards the coast, you make your way to the coastal town of Paternoster. The area is completely unspoilt and if you're lucky you may see dolphins off shore.
Take a walk along the beach or relax at your guest house whilst you to take in the sea views.
You could do a day trip the nearby Langebaan Lagoon which is a haven for birdlife such as waders and African black oystercatchers. The town has plenty of shops and cafes where you can enjoy some lunch.
You have the morning at leisure before you make your way to Cape Town. Here you drop off your hire car and check in for your overnight flight to London.
Day 15London
