Visit The Drakensberg, South Africa

The Drakensberg is the highest mountain range in Southern Africa. As well as spectacular scenery the 'Berg' as it's also known, is home to remarkable San rock art as well as plenty of wildlife.

The Drakensberg (known locally as the Berg) rise to their most fierce and dramatic on the Lesotho border, earning their Zulu name "Barrier of Spears".

In the Royal Natal National Park is the Amphitheatre, a five kilometre curving sheer wall over which the Tugela River dashes itself.

Willdlife of the Drakensberg

At Giant’s Castle, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife have marked out hiking trails to showcase the scenery, the remarkable San rock art and the wildlife. Amongst the peaks, eland pick out paths and Lammergeier vultures soar on thermals.

The southern Berg is home to the Sani Pass, where a narrow dirt road climbs through the mountains into Lesotho.
