Reasons To
Visit South Africa

  • Self Drive

The most economical and by far the most popular way to experience South Africa is on a self drive. The roads are good, traffic tends to be light and driving is on the left.

  • Wine Tasting

Within easy driving distance of Cape Town, the valleys of Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek have become known as 'The Winelands'. Here you can admire the manicured rows of green and russet vines and even stop to sample the local tipple.

  • Whale Watching

Hermanus and Walker Bay, near Cape Town, are perhaps the best places in the world to spot whales from the shore (Jun-Dec). Whale watching trips from boats are also popular in South Africa.

  • Battlefields

Learn how Ghandi, Paul Kruger and Winston Churchill were all involved in the battle of Spioenkop, during the Boer War, or how a hundred British soldiers held off some 4,000 Zulus at Rorke’s Drift, and how nearly 1,800 were killed a few hours earlier at the battle of Isandlwana.

Visit The Waterberg, South Africa

The vast Waterberg area consists of mountains and high plateaus; it is certainly well off-the-beaten track. There is a good diversity of game and the area is malaria-free.

The Waterberg

South Africa

The Waterberg is a vast area of malaria-free land running roughly from just north of Johannesburg all the way to the Botswana border.

It is an area launching itself into ecology and conservation: the Waterberg biosphere under the aegis of Waterberg Nature Conservancy, is a body bringing numerous private reserves under one umbrella.

Off-the-beaten

It is essentially a cluster of mountains and high plateaus whose steep slopes and steamy gullies offer scenery unlike anything else in South Africa with the added advantage of being well off-the-beaten track for most people. It covers 1,500 square kilometres of land now under conservation and being restored back to its natural state.

Wildlife of the Waterberg

You do not have the near-guaranteed Big Five sightings of the private reserves at the Kruger, but you do have a remarkable diversity of game in a truly beautiful setting, and you share the views and sightings with few other visitors.
