Reasons To
Visit South Africa

  • Self Drive

The most economical and by far the most popular way to experience South Africa is on a self drive. The roads are good, traffic tends to be light and driving is on the left.

  • Wine Tasting

Within easy driving distance of Cape Town, the valleys of Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek have become known as 'The Winelands'. Here you can admire the manicured rows of green and russet vines and even stop to sample the local tipple.

Hermanus and Walker Bay, near Cape Town, are perhaps the best places in the world to spot whales from the shore (Jun-Dec). Whale watching trips from boats are also popular in South Africa.

Stellenbosch is at the heart of the Winelands. It has many historic mansions and stately homes but it still has a vibrant feel thanks to the student population attending its famous university.

Stellenbosch

The Winelands, South Africa

Stellenbosch is at the heart of the Winelands.

Though the oldest European settlement in South Africa after Cape Town, it often feels the youngest, with a vitality imbued by the student population attending its famous university.

300 year old oak trees

Many of the avenues are lined with 300-year-old oak trees that shelter historic mansions and stately homes, while there are also pretty lanes lined with plentiful cafés and restaurants.

It’s a welcoming town, easy and rewarding to explore on foot.
