Reasons To
Visit Tanzania

  • Beaches

It is extremely easy to add some beach relaxation in Zanzibar after a tiring safari on the mainland; the beaches are stunning and diving is excellent. You don't have to travel far either as the island is only a 30 minute flight from Dar Es Salaam. Tanzania is therefore the ideal location to combine a safari and beach break.

  • Big Cats & Safari Wildlife

Tanzania has some of Africa's most famous and best national parks and reserves where you are guaranteed fantastic big cat sightings. The Serengeti, Selous and the Crater are just some of the best game viewing areas to visit.

Tanzania has more than 1,000 species of birds and some spectacular places to view them. Lake Natron is also the only known breeding ground for East Africa's millions of lesser flamingos which cover the lake between August and October.

  • Chimpanzees

The Mahale Mountains - towering almost 2km above the shore of Lake Tanganyika are home to some of the last remaining wild chimpanzees. There are currently around 900 which are habituated to humans, and tracking them is a magical experience.

  • Great Migration

One of the highlights of the Serengeti National park is the great annual migration which passes through this amazing wilderness. Up to 1.8 million wildebeest and zebra have been counted doing their annual trip in search of the sweet grasses and the rains.

Accommodation in Tanzania: Ndutu Lodge

Ndutu Lodge

Serengeti National Park

Ndutu Lodge is set in acacia woodland overlooking the seasonal Lake Ndutu.

Its focus is not on frills, but on the wildlife experience and the lodge certainly has a certain 'bush' atmosphere.

The rooms are homely stone chalets, unfussy and comfortable. They have polished stone floors, African prints on the walls and simple en suite bathrooms with piping hot showers. Each has a small veranda.

The central dining area and bar is open-sided stone and thatch. Tea and coffee are always available and many guests sit chatting in the deep wicker chairs, or outside round the fire.

Meals at Ndutu are legendary, with all the fresh ingredients coming straight from Gibbs Farm, and often continue late into the night. The dining room is also visited by genets at dinner - they come to run along the rafters and look for scraps of food.

Perhaps most importantly, Ndutu has the prime position in the Serengeti for the calving and rearing of the millions of wildebeest. From December to May the lodge is surrounded by millions of wildebeest and their following predators and game viewing is unsurpassable.

Because of its prime location and popularity with repeat guests Ndutu is a lodge that you have to book at least a year in advance.
