Reasons To
Visit Tanzania

  • Beaches

It is extremely easy to add some beach relaxation in Zanzibar after a tiring safari on the mainland; the beaches are stunning and diving is excellent. You don't have to travel far either as the island is only a 30 minute flight from Dar Es Salaam. Tanzania is therefore the ideal location to combine a safari and beach break.

Tanzania has some of Africa's most famous and best national parks and reserves where you are guaranteed fantastic big cat sightings. The Serengeti, Selous and the Crater are just some of the best game viewing areas to visit.

Tanzania has more than 1,000 species of birds and some spectacular places to view them. Lake Natron is also the only known breeding ground for East Africa's millions of lesser flamingos which cover the lake between August and October.

  • Chimpanzees

The Mahale Mountains - towering almost 2km above the shore of Lake Tanganyika are home to some of the last remaining wild chimpanzees. There are currently around 900 which are habituated to humans, and tracking them is a magical experience.

  • Great Migration

One of the highlights of the Serengeti National park is the great annual migration which passes through this amazing wilderness. Up to 1.8 million wildebeest and zebra have been counted doing their annual trip in search of the sweet grasses and the rains.

Olakira

Serengeti National Park

Olakira Camp is a classic mobile tented camp right in the middle of prime wildlife areas in the Serengeti, it moves through the southern and central Serengeti, in areas of great wildlife concentration.

From December to March, the camp is in the southern Serengeti, or Ndutu area. Here are the famous Serengeti plains - endless grasslands where lion and cheetah find perfect hunting grounds whilst the wildebeest and zebra are dropping their young. From June to November the camp moves  to the central Serengeti whilst following the migration and the concentration of game. The camp is an intimate mobile tented camp of 6 guest tents and 2 common area tents.

Whilst the mobile nature of Olakira Camp allows it to move to the densest concentrations of wildlife, it manages to surprise with its spaciousness and comfort. The guest tents are spacious and comfortable with large king-size or twin beds and convenient bathrooms.

Each tent has its own private verandah with an amazing view overlooking the Serengeti. Bathrooms are extremely comfortable for a mobile camp, with shower, wash basin and an environmentally friendly toilet. Central to the camp are two common tents that are open to the surrounding nature.

When the camp is occupied by multiple small groups, one tent will serve as a dining tent and the other one as a lounge, where drinks are served and safari stories are shared. Fantastic meals are served in the dining tent or in a private location: your own veranda or under the Serengeti stars.

Staying at Olakira Camp is not about 5 star luxury though, it's about something more than that. Being in the middle of this wonderful spectacle, with wild animals roaming around camp at night, is a dream come true to even the most experienced of travellers.
