Reasons To
Visit Tanzania

  • Beaches

It is extremely easy to add some beach relaxation in Zanzibar after a tiring safari on the mainland; the beaches are stunning and diving is excellent. You don't have to travel far either as the island is only a 30 minute flight from Dar Es Salaam. Tanzania is therefore the ideal location to combine a safari and beach break.

  • Big Cats & Safari Wildlife

Tanzania has some of Africa's most famous and best national parks and reserves where you are guaranteed fantastic big cat sightings. The Serengeti, Selous and the Crater are just some of the best game viewing areas to visit.

  • Birds

Tanzania has more than 1,000 species of birds and some spectacular places to view them. Lake Natron is also the only known breeding ground for East Africa's millions of lesser flamingos which cover the lake between August and October.

  • Chimpanzees

The Mahale Mountains - towering almost 2km above the shore of Lake Tanganyika are home to some of the last remaining wild chimpanzees. There are currently around 900 which are habituated to humans, and tracking them is a magical experience.

  • Great Migration

One of the highlights of the Serengeti National park is the great annual migration which passes through this amazing wilderness. Up to 1.8 million wildebeest and zebra have been counted doing their annual trip in search of the sweet grasses and the rains.

Selous Private Camp

Selous Game Reserve

Selous Private Camp has an idyllic situation on the fringes of Lake Nzerakera.

This beautiful lake has dramatic borassus palms rising from the waters, small grassy islands and a profusion of birdlife. Game regularly comes to drink at the shores and elephant can often be seen in the waters.

The camp itself has a spacious and comfortable lounge/bar all built on a raised wooden decking and a swimming pool. From the main boma, small paths lead through the riverine forest to four spacious tents.

Each tent is raised on wooden decks under high thatch roofs and has maximum privacy. Inside, not a detail has been overlooked. There are large comfortable beds, wardrobes and fans. En suite bathrooms have hot outdoor showers, basins and flush loos.

There are spacious verandas outside each tent with comfortable chairs which are perfect for relaxing in on lazy afternoons. As the camp is not fenced you will often see antelope grazing in camp and walking along the pathways in front of you.

There are plenty of well organised activities from Selous Private Camp. Game drives on open 4WDs are led by professional guides. Walks are possible and the boat trips in small boats are a delight.

Floating on Lake Nzerakera watching the birds, crocodiles, hippo and myriad of other animals is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. For the heat of the day there is a shady swimming pool with fresh towels, and cold drinks provided.
