Day 1London
You will fly to Nairobi overnight with Kenya Airways.
Fly on to Dar es Salaam at 08.05, landing at 09.20. On arrival, you will be transferred around to the domestic terminal for your light aircraft transfer to the Selous Game Reserve. The flight takes around forty five minutes and you`ll get some great views of the Rufiji River and tall borassus palms as you come in to land.
A driver-guide from Impala Camp will meet you at the airstrip and will drive you back to the camp where you can settle in and relax after your long journey.
After lunch, head out on your first afternoon activity - I think a boat safari is the perfect way to start your safari part of your trip, floating on the lake watching the hippos and crocodiles which often get breathtakingly close, enjoying a drink at sunset!
Today you can take your pick from game viewing activities from your camp - choose from game-drives, boat safaris, fishing trips and walking safaris. A game drive is a great way to explore more of the Selous, and see some of the larger animals which live there - there are good numbers of lion, elephant, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, impala, eland and if you`re lucky you might spot a leopard or one of the packs of African wild dog which are absolutely entrancing to watch hunt and play.
You can choose from safari activities today - I`d highly recommend a walking safari for a change of scene from the game drives - you get a totally different safari experience, focussing more on the smaller details and can practice your skills tracking some of the larger animals such as elephant and giraffe which have wandered close to camp overnight. The boat safaris are beautiful in the afternoons, taking a drink to enjoy on the boat or on the lake`s sandy shore at sunset, and watching the larger animals come down to the water to drink.
Today you can enjoy a final morning game-drive, and lunch at the camp before you take the 3pm light aircraft flight out of the Selous to Pangani on the mainland coast. Here you will be met and driven to the Tides Lodge where you will spend the next week, relaxing on the beautiful beach and unwinding after your safari.
At leisure at The Tides - you can spend today relaxing, or perhaps enjoying a snorkelling or diving excursion out to one of the nearby reefs. This can be combined with a few hours relaxing on a sandbank that is exposed at low tide, which is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon after your snorkelling adventures!
There are plenty of other watersports to enjoy here including windsurfing and kite-surfing, depending on wind conditions of course!
Today you can spend the day unwinding or enjoying activities from The Tides. It`s lovely to simply stroll barefoot along the long crescent-shaped beach, watching the world go by.
If you fancy a bit of adventure, you could head out on the fishing boat that is owned by The Tides. This is a really fun way to spend a morning or afternoon and the guides will show you what to do, so it doesn't`t matter if you`re not experienced at deep-sea fishing!
Today you could perhaps visit Pangani town - you can spend an hour or two enjoying a guided tour of the town, learning about its history and culture and afterwards relaxing on a boat on the Pangani River, seeing the small fishing villages from the water. This is an area seldom visited by tourists so you can really enjoy an authentic view of what local life is like.
You have the morning free to relax at the Tides and after lunch you will be driven to Tanga, where you will take the afternoon flight down to Dar es Salaam. A driver will transfer you around to the international airport, and you will fly back to Dar es Salaam and connect onto your international flight to Nairobi and then overnight to London Heathrow.
Day 12London
You will land early this morning in London Heathrow.
