If you visit from Oct-Jan you may be lucky enough to be joined by the Hawksbill turtles. Now critically endangered, they come ashore to dig their nests in the sand and then lay their eggs. A couple of months later (Dec-Mar)the hatchlings scuttle back into the sea during the night. The rare Green Turtle can be seen from June to September.

Denis Island is a small exclusive get away.

There are 25 cottages situated in the northwest of the island. Sandy paths lead between bougainvillea, frangipani, palm and casuarina trees to spacious and private cottages.

There are 16 Deluxe Cottages, six of which are beach front and the others set a little back from the shore. Each has a large shady patio with comfy deck chairs - perfect for enjoying a sunset drink. Inside, the spacious bedrooms have beds with mosquito nets, air conditioning, cool stone floors, ample wardrobe space and lots of comfy chairs.

The en suite bathrooms are very luxurious with twin basins, a bath and an outside shower. Leading from the bathroom is your own tiny private garden. This has direct beach access so you can wash off the sand and leave your snorkel gear outside when you return from the beach. Some of the chalets overlook the sea directly, whilst others are set back about 10m from the beach and are known as garden chalets.

There are then seven Belle Etoile Villas which are larger versions of the Deluxe Cottages, all beach front with a sala and day bed on the veranda. Finally there are two villas one is ideal for families with two bedrooms, a huge bathroom and living area and the second is a deluxe villa which is basically much larger and more stylish than the other cottages with the feel of a private house.

Denis Island offers memorable dining experiences. A fabulous array of freshly caught seafood, marinated meats, exotic salads and fresh vegetables offer a delectable fusion of tastes enhanced by local herbs and spices. The dining room serves buffet breakfasts, light salad lunches and three course evening meals. On Wednesdays and Saturdays there are special evenings with either a barbecue or a Creole spread.

There are many activities to enjoy on Denis Island. Beach sports include sailing, windsurfing, snorkelling, canoeing, a PADI dive centre, year round fishing on the Mako 34' Striker and bone fishing.
