There is a wide range of accommodation on the Seychelles including deluxe five-star hotels, Creole guesthouses, boutique hotels, plantation houses and exclusive private island hideaways (these have only one exclusive lodge). The Seychelles is home to well over 200 species of birds that vary from residents that stay all year around, to migrants who pass through with the seasons. Bird Island, as the name suggests, is alone home to around 800,000 pairs of sooty terns.

  • Turtles

If you visit from Oct-Jan you may be lucky enough to be joined by the Hawksbill turtles. Now critically endangered, they come ashore to dig their nests in the sand and then lay their eggs. A couple of months later (Dec-Mar)the hatchlings scuttle back into the sea during the night. The rare Green Turtle can be seen from June to September.

When you land on the airstrip you will be met and proceed on foot to the lodge.

Your luggage is taken ahead of you and the walk is a maximum of five minutes! It's a refreshing way to have a 'hotel transfer'.

Desroches Island Lodge offers supreme comfort, and yet is a very relaxed and unpretentious. There are 20 beach suites, set just back from the beach in the shady gardens.

Each room is beautiful with expanses of polished wooden floors, cream linens and brown fabrics, large paintings and lamps and views of the gardens and sea. Not a comfort has been overlooked with twin or double beds, satellite TV, air-conditioning and sun-loungers and chairs on the spacious terrace. The en-suite bathrooms have twin basins, and wonderful outdoor showers and claw footed baths with views of the stars. In the centre of the resort is a swimming pool, bar and restaurant.

There are no cars on the island and the mode of transport is by bicycle. Your bike is ready and waiting for you outside your room and comes complete with a water bottle and basket for putting your swimming things in. Although it is hot work cycling, the paths run through the trees and the island being totally flat, you have no hills to climb which is a definite bonus. You can cycle to beaches without a soul on them and spots for snorkelling. The very active can cycle the length of the island to the lighthouse, a journey of about an hour.

Whilst many come to Desroches simply to relax on the beach, if you'd like to do some activities plenty are available. There is a dive centre, kayaks and windsurfs to use and large boat. The boat can be chartered on a daily basis for trips to the other islands or for deep sea or fly-fishing (catch and release policy).

Whatever you'd like to do, Desroches is the place to go.
