If you visit from Oct-Jan you may be lucky enough to be joined by the Hawksbill turtles. Now critically endangered, they come ashore to dig their nests in the sand and then lay their eggs. A couple of months later (Dec-Mar)the hatchlings scuttle back into the sea during the night. The rare Green Turtle can be seen from June to September.

La Digue Island Lodge is situated above the beautiful beach of Anse La Reunion.

It is the largest lodge on the island by far and has 69 rooms spread along the back of the beach and in pretty gardens.

Starting with the most basic room, there are a number of standard rooms, half of which are situated in a small terrace and the other half in the Plantation House, a Creole house over 100 years old. These are the smallest rooms and those in the Plantation house don't have a balcony or terrace.

The most popular rooms tend to be the beach and garden chalets. These are individual, pretty A-frame chalets. Inside, they are whitewashed and have sloping walls, a small attic room ideal for children and en-suite bathroom There is ample wardrobe space.

Finally, the superior rooms are very spacious and have 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a terrace or balcony with sea-view. All the rooms have air-conditioning, mini-bar, satellite TV and tea and coffee making facilities.

Beside the beach at one end of the lodge there is a swimming pool and seafront restaurant where a la carte lunches are served. There is a large spreading badamier tree and having lunch under this looking over the sea is a delight. The main restaurant serves breakfast and dinner and is located just back from the beach.

There is lots to do at the hotel if you choose. A number of trips to good snorkelling spots and nearby islands are run free of charge, except for the entry into the Marine Park (about 10 Euro). There is a watersports centre where you can hire snorkel kit (5 Euro per day) and arrange dive trips. Finally, the lodge can easily arrange bicycle hire and of course, a trip in the ox-carts.
