St Anne was the site of the first settlement in the Seychelles.
Saint Anne is a granitic island which rises to 205 metres. At the top there is a navigation light to help sailors coming into Mahe.
History of Saint Anne Island
The first group of settlers arrived in 1770 from Mauritius to grow spices and vegetables. Since then, the island as been home to a whaling station (from 1832 to 1915), World War II gun battery and now, cluster of private houses and luxury hotel.
The island is about 2km long and 1km wide and has a number of beautiful white sandy beaches. There are a number of coral reefs offshore, making this the perfect island to relax on.
