Crocodile Bushcamp
South Luangwa National Park
Crocodile Bushcamp is a true walking camp. There are no roads and the only way to reach the camp is on foot - even the luggage and supplies are portered in from the Luangwa River about 2 km away.
There are just 3 chalets, constructed of thatch with large comfortable bedrooms and en suite bathrooms, built amongst and around beautiful ebony trees on the edge of Crocodile River.
When inside your chalet look up to the roof where you will often find one or two small slit-faced bats roosting. These harmless bats will flit about up in the straw roof during the day and leave at dusk.
There is no running water and showers are filled with bucketloads of warm water on request. The rooms look out onto plains where there are always puku, impala and warthog feeding, and there is a semi-permanent water hole that attracts more and more game as the dry season progresses.
At the centre of camp is a small open-sided dining room - again made from reed & thatch. A small bar has plentiful cold drinks and a dining table is set up on the dusty floor. Look up to the roof in the dining room and you will see epauleted bats roosting - again, they flit about during the day and fly out at night to feed.
Its a wonderfully wild spot and we highly recommend it for those looking for true wilderness.
