Reasons To
Visit Zambia

  • Big cats & safari wildlife

Zambia is a safari destination for the connoisseur, boasting a fantastic range of wildlife in its diverse national parks. Many amazing game experiences can be had within the national parks, with lion virtually guaranteed and leopard in abundance. This superb array of game can be appreciated on foot, by car or on the water.

  • Birds

Zambia offers the full range of fascinating, colourful birdlife you’d expect to see on safari, with a range of water based birds in the Lower Zambezi and Kafue National Parks. The Bangweulu Wetlands are one of the few places on the planet where you can see the impressive Shoebill Stork.

  • Boat trips

An evening cruise on the Zambezi in Livingstone and game viewing from Kafue’s Lufupa River are wonderfully relaxing, but best of all are the water based activities in the Lower Zambezi. Drifting slowly down river, observing elephants coming into drink as the sun goes down is one of the definitive African experiences.

    Boat trips
  • Night drives

With night drives offered in all of the major national parks, Zambia is arguably the best destination in Africa to observe nocturnal wildlife. The South Luangwa in particular is known for outstanding leopard sightings, and there is a tangible excitement to watching how wildlife behaves after dark.

  • Victoria Falls

By any judgement Victoria Falls is an awesome force of nature. During the wet season up to 550 million litres of water cascades over the lip of the Falls each minute, offering an intensely photogenic experience. The spectacle that so bewitched David Livingstone is still equally impressive today.

  • Walking safari

With superb guides and remote wilderness, the country that invented the walking safari is still the premier walking destination on the continent. There is nothing quite like approaching elephants or buffalo on foot knowing full well that you are a mere guest in their territory.

Accommodation in Zambia: Kuyenda Bushcamp

Kuyenda is a wonderful bushcamp situated in a very remote area of the park on the banks of the Manzi River. It is a wonderful walking area and activities are tailored to the client needs.

Our Rating: First Class

Kuyenda Bushcamp

South Luangwa National Park

Kuyenda is a wonderful bushcamp situated in a very remote area of the park on the banks of the Manzi River.

The accommodation consists of four thatched rondavels made entirely of local material - reed, thatch and wood. The chalets are rustic but very comfortable and offer an authentic bush experience. Large spacious beds, with mosquito netting and colourful covers, an abundance of storage space and all facilities en-suite (shower, toilet and washbasin). The bathroom is open to the stars and you need to order the hot water for the shower in advance thus epitomising what a safari is all about. The main dining area, sitting room and bar are in a small open fronted thatched structure in the centre of the small camp and this is the nucleus of all activities.

As Kuyenda, like all the camps, is inside the National Park itself, big game action happens on your doorstep. It is a wonderful walking area and activities are tailored to the client needs.

For many years Phil Berry has been hosting and guiding at Kuyenda. He has spent the last 30 years directly involved in Zambia's wildlife and he personally guides the walks himself at Kuyenda. A walk with Phil is as enthralling as it is interesting. He ensures that everyone gets a unique insight into this very special place. With Phil's unmatched knowledge and the unbeatable camp atmosphere, each client leaves with a great desire to return.

As well as walking safaris it is also possible to enjoy game drives in open 4WDs and night drives.
