Shiwa Ng'andu
Shiwa Ngandu
Shiwa Ng'andu is an old English manor house, built deep in the African bush.
A good day’s drive from the North Luangwa Park, it is remote but well worth making the journey for. Perfect avenues of eucalyptus lead to a graceful stately home with sweeping staircases, panelled libraries, Persian rugs, muskets, chests and a clock tower topping the slate tiled roof.
Built by Sir Stewart Gore Brown in the early 20th Century and brought to public attention by Christina Lamb's book, 'The Africa House', it is steeped in history and a living memorial to the life and work of Sir Stewart.
Shiwa combines well with a visit to the North Luangwa and Bangweulu Wetlands, home to the rare shoebill stork.
